What a GREAT race!

The weather was cool but made for a tough swim in the rollers coming in off the lake. In all of my races I have never seen anyone turn around during the swim and come back. Nor have I heard anyone having to get plucked out by a life guard. The swim was ruff but not as bad as the uphill 1/4 mile run to the transition area...YIKES! With the run I was not too far behind on my pace so I was happy.

The bike course was flat and FAST. However the use of a couple mixed use paths made it a tad interesting in the aerobars. I decided to drill it west into the wind and spin on the backside to get ready for the run. I was passing people like they were standing still just crushing the bike. I averaged 22.3mph and had plenty in the tank BUT I was focused on my weakest leg...The Run. I saw the most disturbing site ever during a race. I passed a guy with about a 1/4 mile to go riding his mountain bike...BARE FOOT!

So I transition to the Run and as I come out of the gates who do I see? The Bare Foot bandit from the bike leg...running BARE FOOT. He quickly faded in the rear view mirror but he either forgot his shoes or is trying to be a kenyan athlete. My run is one of my better runs with the pace become quicker with every mile. The last 1/3 of the race is down a hill then up a hill to the finish. I was trailing a guy the whole race and since he did not have the Tri body markings I cruised right behind him. BAD DECISION! He is the one who beat me by 2 seconds. Lesson learned!

Great Race and a Great Cheering Crowd!

See ya at the next race,
